In 1937, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien introduced to the world the fictional realm of Middle-earth, in his first publication entitled 'The Hobbit'. This was the beginning of what would become a spree of literary masterpieces, all centered around this mythical world.
These books also introduced a variety of diverse and interesting characters to an audience of readers both young and old.
Tolkien's publications have since become the basis for the majority of modern fantasy, and 74 years since The Hobbit's release and the introduction of Middle-earth to the world, his stories and characters live on within the hearts of millions of readers. This blog concerns both the literary works and personal life of perhaps the most influential author of the 20th century.
